The Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit incorporation that facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse and neglect cases. The Southern VA CAC hosts space for all the agency's’ service programs, as well as, a child friendly atmosphere for our multidisciplinary response to child abuse and neglect. The CAC offers the benefit of immediate follow-up on child abuse reports, better coordination of medical and mental health referrals, fewer child victim interviews, increased successful prosecution and a consistent continuum of support services to victims and their non-offending family members. Services are comprehensive and community oriented.
CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocates (Franklin County & Pittsylvania County)
CASA provides advocacy services for abused and neglected children who are involved in judicial proceedings. CASA volunteers investigate cases, submit reports to the court addressing issues of safety, individual and family needs, and permanency, assist Guardians ad litem, and monitor cases for compliance with court orders. CASA's goal is to ensure that every abused and neglected child is appointed a skilled and committed CASA volunteer who will advocate for their best interest during these proceedings.
CART: Child Abuse Review Teams (Franklin County, Henry County, Martinsville, & Patrick County)
The Southern VA Child Advocacy Center serves as Resource Office for the team and coordinates the implementation of this comprehensive multidisciplinary response to child abuse. The Resource Office's primary goal is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the community based team by strengthening our commitment to victims through providing coordinated services including joint investigations, case management, prosecution efforts, advocacy, medical and clinical treatment and educational programs. The team's response is multifaceted and services are provided to ensure a timely, thorough response to each victim's needs.
Darkness to Light - Stewards of Children
D2L - Stewards of Children introduces a curriculum that educates the community about child sexual abuse and surrounding issues, increases the identification of child abuse, child neglect, and child sexual abuse, and teaches community members how to report concerns of abuse and neglect. Skills developed in the D2L - Stewards of Children empower community members to share in the protection of children by effectively identifying, responding to and reporting child abuse.
