No child should ever have to sit on the sidelines, watching as their peers run and laugh, playing together on a playground in the summer sun. No child should have to feel envious of another for simply sliding down a slide, swinging on a swing set, or just enjoying the glee that childhood has to offer. According to the book “Play = Learning: How Play Motivates and Enhances Children’s Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Growth,” four decades of research has been done regarding the benefits of play to a child’s development. And yet, some kids are facing deprivation of play. Some of our children are not being included in playground games. Why? Not for lack of wanting, or lack of invitation– but simply because the infrastructure isn’t there. Playgrounds often require children to make arduous climbs, don’t make room for wheelchairs, and exclude the blind or deaf. You can help change that.

The Addy Grace Foundation, a local registered 501-C3 non-profit organization is dedicated to building inclusive community spaces for all Roanoke Valley citizens. Named for founder James and Jennifer Garner's daughter, Addy Grace, the foundation is focused on building fully accessible spaces for community building, social interaction, and play.  With the help of generous local supporters, The Addy Grace Foundation will build the region's first fully-accessible playground adjacent to the new Botetourt County YMCA facility on nearly half a football field of donated land.
However, there is still more to do to make this playground a reality, and we need your help. Please consider making a donation in the name of a family member, teacher, child or friend who works extra hard every day to fulfill childhood aspirations and ensure that their children don’t miss out because of a difference they acquired or were born with. Your gift will reflect again and again, rippling through the community, in the eyes of every child who experiences the joy of playing together, learning together, and being together on the playground for all.

Thank you for considering Addy Grace Foundation in making "THE DREAM COME TRUE" for all kids in the area.
