We are celebrating 26 Years!
Healing Strides of VA (HSVA) is the only Premier Accredited Center for the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH) in the Roanoke Valley. We are also a US Pony Club Center (USPCC); we were the 2nd integrated USPCC program in the US. We serve a population of both children and adults. Our policy is to allow any child or adult, at least age 4 and up, to participate with approved medical form. Currently our youngest rider is 4 and eldest has been 97.
We serve a wide range of disabilities, emotional, cognitive, and/or physical. A sample of disabilities we currently work with include riders with neurological disorders, Autism, ADHD, ADD, muscular dystrophy, muscular sclerosis, cerebral palsy, Down and Rhett’s Syndrome, spinal cord injuries, developmental delays, sensory integration , skeletal dysfunction, paralysis, traumatic brain injury , PTSD, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, dementia, and Alzheimer’s.
We have a growing population in our Veterans Program as well as our Forever Young (Seniors Riding Club) which are also integrated.
In 2016, we provided approximately 5000 lessons and recorded over 7500 volunteer hours.
