Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety, YOVASO, is an organization dedicated decreasing the number of teen car crash fatalities on Virginia's roadways. The program began in 2001 and since statewide expansion in 2007, teen fatalities have steadily declined from 133 in 2007 to 67 in 2014.
YOVASO's mission is to educate, encourage and empower youth and teens to be traffic safety advocates in their schools in communities. The YOVASO staff works closely with students and school administrators to help set up a YOVASO club. Once established, YOVASO continues to support the club and its programs to ensure success. Yearly trainings, support materials, safety campaigns, and leadership conferences are all provided FREE to member schools. YOVASO currently works with 130 middle and high schools throughout Virginia.
