Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety, YOVASO, is an organization dedicated to decreasing the number of teen car crash fatalities on Virginia's roadways. The program began in 2001 and since statewide expansion in 2007, teen fatalities have steadily declined from 133 in 2007 to 56 in 2017.
YOVASO's mission is to engage, educate, and empower youth to influence a safe driving culture through leadership development and innovative outreach programs. The YOVASO staff works closely with school administrators and youth group directors to help set up YOVASO programs across the Commonwealth. Once established, YOVASO continues to support the program and its efforts to ensure success. Yearly trainings, support materials, safety campaigns, and leadership conferences are all provided FREE to member schools and youth groups. YOVASO currently works with 100 middle schools, high schools, and youth groups throughout Virginia.
