The Roanoke Valley SPCA does more than spay/neuter, vaccinate, microchip, and adopt-out animals. We support the owners of the many companion animals throughout the Valley, an integral part of our mission to create a community where there are no homeless dogs and cats through the power of adoption, prevention and intervention. We offer a range of programs that serve animals for the sake of humanity.

Spay and Neuter Clinics: The Roanoke Valley SPCA believes that the only way to end the overpopulation of unwanted pets is through an aggressive spay/neuter program. The Roanoke Valley SPCA is proud to manage not one, but two low-cost, high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter clinics. The Roanoke Valley SPCA Mobile Clinic, along with Mountain View Humane, our spay/neuter subsidiary operating in Christiansburg, uniquely positions us to serve all of southwest Virginia and parts of southern West Virginia. We hope members of our community and surrounding areas take advantage of this low-cost alternative and help support our cause!

Sara Jane & Mickey Second Chance Fund: Sara Jane Quatmann and Mickey McAdam were two very special dogs given a second chance at life. In memory of these two tremendous spirits, Dr. Bridget Quatmann and LeAnn McAdam founded the Sara Jane & Mickey Second Chance Fund to assist other animals at the Roanoke Valley SPCA. The fund provides for medical procedures outside the scope of the clinic at the Roanoke Valley SPCA that greatly enhances the adoptability of deserving animals. During the 2018 fiscal year, almost $29,000 was spent in order to help 88 pets in our care. Each life benefited greatly from the Sara Jane & Mickey Second Chance Fund, such as Pepito, who came to us from the Regional Center for Animal Control and Protection. They were hopeful that we could find someone who could give him the love and attention that he needed, being a senior pet with diabetes. Due to this disease, Pepito was extremely malnourished and unhealthy. We soon discovered that his condition was not actively being treated until he came into our care. He had developed cataracts resulting in a severe loss of sight. Once he was transferred into our care, we were able to find him a loving foster family, who is helping him gain weight to become healthy again and perform glucose curves to make sure the insulin treatments are working. Pepito is currently with a loving family, who has provided him with a safe place to heal. They have also added some style and comfort to his life with multiple cosy sweaters. Without the Sara Jane & Mickey Second Chance Fund, none of his medical care would have been possible. When you donate to us on Roanoke Valley Gives, you give animals like Pepito a second chance at a better life. A life of love, joy, and the care they all deserve.

Community Outreach: Community engagement is essential to every organization, and it is no less important in the world of pet care. Over this past fiscal year, we saw a growth in the programs provided to both youth and seniors. Nearly 900 senior citizens residing in nursing homes, assisted living centers and senior residence centers enjoyed interaction and companionship of our Visiting Pet Program. With our youth outreach programs, we reached over 980 children through in-house tours and humane education workshops, seminars, and presentations - helping to create the next generation of animal welfare advocates. In the fiscal year 2019, we are looking to bring outreach directly to local schools with our mobile clinic. In addition to human education, this will give students the opportunity to board the mobile clinic and learn the health benefits of spaying/neutering and about the type of veterinary care a pet needs to keep them happy and healthy!
