The Food Pantry provides emergency food and financial assistance to low income residents of Salem and Roanoke County, including Vinton. We are located in Salem, VA and are open 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Your contributions will be used in any one of four programs to help families in need.
Emergency Food Assistance: We provide a well-rounded diet of about a week’s worth of groceries for each person in the household. We average between 400-500 families every month. Clients who qualify can come every thirty days for food thereby stretching their food budget by 25%.
Emergency Financial Assistance: The Food Pantry helps people in Salem and Roanoke County who face either eviction from their homes, or termination of electric, water, heating oil or gas. Clients may receive assistance once a year. Funds are sent directly to the vendor on behalf of the clients, thereby helping many families remain in their homes during difficult financial times.
Crib Ministry: Families with children under three years old living in the household may receive assistance with formula, baby food, diapers and wipes. We want to make sure our youngest clients are starting out with the proper nutrition they need to grow strong and healthy.
Snack Buddies: Children in grades preschool through the fifth grade are encouraged to bring a nutritious snack to school to eat mid-morning. This snack time takes place in the classroom and is meant to bridge the gap between the children’s breakfast and lunch times. We partner with all four elementary schools in Salem and 16 elementary schools and 22 preschools in Roanoke County to support needy children by providing them with appropriate snacks.
