Have you thought about donating to the Science Museum, but haven't gotten around to it? This is the perfect time! We've been awarded a matching grant for new (or increased) donations, so your donation will be doubled PLUS you might help us win a little extra from RV Gives!
To make science and technology accessible to all people by being an outstanding regional institution that ignites and nurtures life-long learning.
Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia, founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers to provide informal science experiences to enhance education in the classroom.
We inspire a fascination with science throughout the region. We offer hands-on science exhibits, special events and programs, summer camps and outreach programs. Your donation will support programs in the museum and in the community. These funds are also instrumental in helping us maintain our current exhibits and bring new ones to the museum. Our Pass Bank allows us to welcome groups such as TAP and Boys & Girls Club for museum visits. Our outreach programs bring educators to the community in settings such as local school classrooms that expose children to the marvels of science.
Our Butterfly Garden offers the opportunity to interact with live butterflies from around the world --some with wingspans of 8 inches!-- in an enclosed picturesque setting of lush plants and orchids. The museum features the Living River & Touch Tank and a Bug Zoo. Our expanded galleries -- Healthy Bodies, Healthy Earth, and How It Works! -- feature exciting, interactive exhibits. We also offer an innovative Maker Lab, and The Bubble, a multisensory space for preschoolers.
