The Science Museum of Western Virginia sparks and nurtures a life-long love of the sciences and motivates children to reach their full potential in these subjects. We believe that achieving this is transformational for a child’s life and your support makes that possible!

Each summer we offer a series of camps that are specifically designed to keep our local students engaged in STEM learning year round. Our summer camp programming is unique in that 30% of our participants are on scholarship and come back to our camps every single year. The funds for these scholarships come from the generous donations from our community.
We ask for your support in helping these young scientists in the Roanoke Valley and beyond by as they continue to open their minds to the world of Science!

Our Mission:
To make science and technology accessible to all people by being an outstanding regional institution that ignites and nurtures life-long learning.

Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia, founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers to provide informal science experiences to enhance education in the classroom.

We inspire a fascination with science throughout the region. We offer hands-on science exhibits, special events and programs, summer camps, and outreach programs. Your RV Gives donation will support our summer camp scholarship program. Thanks to the generosity of a few community members and businesses, we had a chance to offer summer camps at little or no cost to some young Roanoke residents last summer. Our summer camp programs, such as “Everyday Engineering”, encourage active learning and children get a remarkable boost in self-confidence.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia offers visitors what TV, the Internet, and other popular media cannot: the opportunity to touch, explore, interact, engage the senses, and experience personal “aha!” moments of discovery.
